‘Where is my Porche’: Lalit Modi narrates story of gifting luxury car to Yuvraj Singh

New Delhi: Indian cricket fans still remember the explosive knock of Yuvraj Singh in the inaugural T20 World Cup. During the tournament, the all-rounder became the first batter to smash six maximums in an over in the history of T20 cricket. He achieved this milestone during India’s must-win match against England.

He took on Stuart Broad and smashed him for 36 runs in an over. Yuvraj scored 58 runs off 16 balls with the help of three boundaries and seven maximums. In a recent podcast, former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi talked about Yuvraj’s six sixes in an over and also shed light on gifting a Porsche in exchange for his Hero Honda bat.

Lalit said that he promised Indian players that he would gift a luxury car to anyone who will take six wickets or hit six maximums in one over. Yuvraj took the challenge seriously and did the unthinkable in the inaugural T20 World Cup. He further added that those sixes were the start of the IPL as it lit a fire on the news channels.

“Nobody has hit six sixes in an over, nobody has taken six wickets in an over. Anyone who hits six sixes or takes six wickets (in an over), I’ll give you a Porsche out of my pocket. Nothing to do with the BCCI. And one fine day, Yuvraj Singh blasts six sixes. My god, those six sixes was the start of the IPL, you know. It lit the fire of the Indian television, the news channels” Lalit Modi said while conversing with famous YouTuber, Raj Shamani.

He also said that after hitting six sixes Yuvraj came running to him on the field and asked him about the Porsche “Yuvraj comes running to me on the field and says, ‘Lalit, where is my Porsche?’ I said, ‘give me the bloody bat,’ and the bat is downstairs” shared Modi.
