Dhawan was heard saying: ‘Namaste Nepal, main aa chuka hoon aur jald aapse milunga’ (Hello Nepal, I am here and will be soon meeting you’ll).
In August this year, Dhawan announced his retirement from all formats of competitive cricket, bringing curtains on his nearly two-decade-long career on the field. He was last seen in action for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 in April this year and his fans will be eager to see him back wield his willow.
What is Nepal Premier League?
Nepal Premier League is the T20 competition organised by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The first season will see participation of eight teams where each team will play the rest of the opposition once in the single round-robin format league phase, meaning no team can play more than seven matches. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs, which will be a like-a-like to the one held in the Indian Premier League.
The tournament will be held from November 30 to December 21 with all the matches to be staged at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. Pokhara Avengers, Janakpur Bolts, Biratnagar Kings, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Chitwan Rhinos, Sudurpaschim Royals, and Karnali Yaks are the eight teams to feature in the first season.
Janakpur Bolts defeated Biratnagar Kings by eight wickets in the first match of the NPL opener.
