New Delhi: Amid the heavy speculations that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025, Mohsin Naqvi has reversed his stance. Speaking to the media after an Under-19 match between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, the PCB chief said that he doesn’t want to comment too much on the matter as that can ruin things, and the board has given their point of view to ICC.
“I don’t want to comment too much because that can ruin things. We have given our point of view (to the ICC), the Indians have also given theirs. The effort is to ensure a win-win for all,” Naqvi told reporters.
He further said that the PCB will do what’s best for cricket and that’s the most important thing but with respect for all. He also said that the whichever formula PCB go for it will be on equal terms. Naqvi also said that Pakistan’s pride is the most important and the board will ensure that cricket wins, but the country’s pride also remains intact.
“Cricket should win, that’s most important but with respect for all. We are going to do what’s best for cricket. Whichever formula we go for, it would be on equal terms. Pakistan’s pride is most important. We have to ensure that cricket wins but Pakistan’s pride also remains intact”. Naqvi added
The PCB chief further said that his efforts are to ensure that there is no one-sided system and it shouldn’t be that Pakistan travel to India and they don’t come to our country. He also said that the idea is to settle it once and for all on equal terms.
Upcoming ICC events in India
After the Champions Trophy 2025, India will host the 2026 T20 World Cup jointly with Sri Lanka, the 2029 Champions Trophy and the 2031 ODI World Cup with Bangladesh. Given that Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the co-hosts of two major tournaments, Pakistan can play their tournament matches out of India. The only point of contention could be just the 2029 Champions Trophy, which India will host entirely. Another talking point could be the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup in India.
