New Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma hilariously punched Sarfaraz Khan on the back after the wicket-keeper fumbled an easy catch behind the stumps during the practice match between India and Australia Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Sunday. Sarfaraz was asked to keep wickets in the warm-up match as Rishabh Pant was rested after the 1st Test in Perth.
The incident happened during the 23rd over of Australia PM XI’s innings, pacer Harshit Rana bowled a short ball to Oliver Davies, who was the new batter on the crease after the dismissal of Jack Clayton. The ball hit Davies before flying to Sarfaraz, who put down a regulation catch.
Rohit, who was fielding at the first slip, came toward Sarfaraz while he was picking the ball and jokingly punched him on his back. Rohit’s antics in the light-hearted moment with Sarfaraz left the fans in splits on social media as a clip of the incident went viral.

Rohit, who skipped the first Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, looked in a jolly mood as he returned to action in the practice match. Rohit had missed the series opener after the birth of his son Ahaan. He joined the rest of the Indian squad in Australia last week and will be back leading the visitors in the 2nd Test in Adelaide.

Pacer Harshit Rana was the pick of the bowlers for India with a 4-wicket haul in the practice match.
