Injury concern for Virat Kohli ahead of day-night Adelaide Test – Watch

New Delhi: Virat Kohli trained with a strapped knee on Tuesday, sparking concerns of an an injury to the star Indian batter ahead of the day-night second Test in Adelaide that begins on Friday.

India’s practice session was open to the public on Tuesday, with many watching the touring team’s players train in the evening. Kohli face Jasprit Bumrah at the nets, which was the high points of the day’s training.

Kohli was also seen receiving medical treatment of his knee. In a widely shared video, the former India skipper could be seen getting his right knee bandaged by a medical staff.

Though the Board of Control for Cricket in India didn’t issue any statement regarding the extent of Kohli’s injury, it is believed to be a minor niggle, putting him in no danger of missing the pink ball Test.

Kohli arrived in Australia under intense pressure, coping a lot of criticism after a string of low scores at home. In his first innings in Australia at the Border-Gavaskar series, he was dismissed for only five runs that added to the scrutiny.

But he responded with a matured unbeaten 100 off 143 balls in the second innings that helped India win the Perth Test by 295 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

It was Kohli’s seventh Test ton in Australia, making him the batter with most centuries Down Under, one more than Sachin Tendulkar. He is now two behind all-time high mark of England’s Jack Hobbs.

Across all formats, Kohli has now scored 10 hundreds on Australian soil (seven in Tests and three in ODIs), to be lie second behind Donald Bradman with most centuries in an away country.

Between 1930 and 1948, Bradman had scored 11 timss in 19 Tests, which remains the benchmark for batters.
