New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) star Suryakumar Yadav continued his prolific run with the willow in the Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, June 01. Suryakumar played a vital knock of 44 runs off 26 balls for MI and scripted history by becoming the first batter to achieve a remarkable feat in the IPL.
Suryakumar became the first non-opener in IPL history to score more than 700 runs in a season. The star batter, who is also known as Mr.360 for his ability to score runs all around the park, is also the first player to score more than 700 runs in a season for the Mumbai Indians. Suryakumar is the 4th Indian overall to achieve the feat after the likes of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan.
Overall, Suryakumar is the 10th batter to have gone past the 700-run mark in a single season in the IPL. However, he is the only non-opener to have done so. The 34-year-old, who mostly bats at no.4 for Mumbai Indians, has notched up 717 runs in 16 matches so far this season at an excellent average of 65.18 and an impressive strike rate of 167.91, including five half-centuries.

Earlier this season, Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Sai Sudharsan became only the third Indian batter after Kohli and Gill to breach the 700-run mark in a single IPL season. Sudharsan was incredibly consistent for GT throughout their campaign and helped them make it to the playoffs with his batting heroics. Sudharsan slammed 49-ball 80 in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians, but failed to get GT over the line in a 229-run chase as his team bowed out of the tournament.
