New Delhi: Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has come out in support of under-fire Prithvi Shaw and shared some crucial advice for the struggling Indian batter. Once regarded as the future star of Indian cricket, Shaw is dealing with one of the lowest phases of his cricketing career. The Mumbai batter recently went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Shaw’s going unsold was due to his poor fitness standards and form. His off-field controversies didn’t help his case either. Earlier, the talented 25-year-old batter was dropped from Mumbai’s playing XI for their clash against Tripura in the Ranji Trophy due to fitness and disciplinary issues. The selectors warned Shaw to get his act together.
Shaw is currently playing for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Alit Trophy (SMAT) 2024 where his performances have been far from impressive. The opener was dismissed on a duck for the second time this season in Mumbai’s clash against Services in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Reacting to his dramatic downfall, Pietersen came up with advice for the youngster to revive his career.
“Some of the greatest sports stories are COMEBACK stories. If Prithvi Shaw has decent people around him who care about his long term success, they’d sit him down, tell him to get off social media & train his absolute backside off in getting super fit. It’ll get him back into the correct path where past success can return. Too talented to throw it all away. Love, KP!,” Pietersen wrote in a tweet on X.

How has Prithvi Shaw performed in SMAT 2024?
Shaw was expected to bounce back strongly and prove his critics wrong with his performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai after going unsold in the IPL auction. However, he has failed to spark a turnaround and has endured a woeful run in the tournament so far. Shaw has managed to score only 96 runs in 5 matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy without a single half-century.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to get back among the runs as the tournament progresses and contribute to Mumbai’s success.
