New Delhi: A mere six days after their FA Cup fourth-round clash, Brighton and Chelsea are set to meet again at the Amex Stadium. Chelsea will travel with revenge at the forefront of their minds but will be without their star striker Nicolas Jackson as he suffered a hamstring injury during their win over West Ham at the start of the month.
Brighton are currently 10th in the standings but are riding high as the recent win boosted their confidence as they were on a consecutive losing streak in the Premier League. Fabian Hurzeler can easily make their third consecutive fifth-round appearance in the FA Cup as they are set to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park later in the month. But before that, the Seagulls will aim to achieve the same feat in the rematch with the Blues.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are fourth in the standings and will focus on the Premier League and Conference League for the remaining season after FA Cup exit. Enzo Meresca will look to begin his time with a trophy in his first season. The Blues bid for the Champions League qualification begins tonight as they are just two points clear of defending champions Manchester City and Newcastle United.
If Chelsea are to maintain their position in the top four, they must improve their away form. They have lost all four of their away Premier League matches since their seven-goal triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in early December. The Blues will aim to reverse this trend with a win against Brighton and begin a successful run.
Team News
Brighton have several injury concerns heading into the match. The Seagulls will be without the services of Jason Steele, Ferdi Kadioglu, Igor Julio, James Milner, and Solly March though March is edging closer to a return. Pervis Estupinan and Mats Wieffer missed the weekend’s game and their availability remains uncertain. Captain Lewis Dunk’s involvement is also in doubt after he picked up a rib injury which could open the door for Adam Webster in the starting lineup. New signing Diego Gomez is pushing for his first start after impressing during his substitute appearance while Joao Pedro may also return to the lineup.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also dealing with several absentees. Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Omari Kellyman, and Marc Guiu remain injured while Mykhaylo Mudryk is suspended due to a provisional doping ban. Reece James is expected to return but Nicolas Jackson will be out for six weeks. Filip Jorgensen, Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez, and Noni Madueke could all be recalled after being sidelined to the bench at the weekend.
Head-to-Head
The meeting at the Amex Stadium will mark the 26th meeting between the two sides. So far, Chelsea holds the lead as they have won the clash 16 times as compared to Brighton who have managed to win only four games. Both teams have played only five draws. This season Seagulls are the only Premier League side to score in the first 20 minutes of a home league game and their 7-0 loss to Nottingham Forest was their heaviest defeat since 1958. Brighton have won the last three meetings against Chelsea but Cole Palmer can change the picture again as he did in September when he netted all four goals in Chelsea’s reverse fixture.
