New Delhi: Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh made some explosive revelations regarding his equation with ex-India captain MS Dhoni. Harbhajan revealed he doesn’t speak to Dhoni and the last they spoke with each other was when the duo shared the dressing room for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2018-2019.
Harbhajan revealed he doesn’t have a problem with Dhoni but the duo are not friends and rarely speak with each other. Harbhajan was an integral member of the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup under Dhoni. The duo also played together for Chennai Super Kings for two seasons in the IPL.
Harbhajan opened up on his equation with Dhoni and revealed even when they were playing together for CSK their conversations were limited to the field. Harbhajan said Dhoni didn’t come to his hotel room and he never visited the former CSK skipper’s room. Harbhajan said that he doesn’t try to call Dhoni as he rarely gets a response from the former India captain.
“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni. When I was playing at CSK, that’s when we spoke, but otherwise, we haven’t spoken. It’s been 10 years and more. I have no reason; perhaps he does. I don’t know what the reasons are. When we were playing in the IPL at CSK, that’s when we used to talk, and that, too, was restricted to the ground. After that, he did not come to my room, nor did I go to his,” Harbhajan Singh told News18.
“I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now. I never tried to call him because I have a lot of passion. I only ring up those who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time otherwise. I stay in touch with the ones I am friends with. A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you will respect me back. Or you respond to me. But if I call you once or twice but don’t get a response, I will probably only meet you as much as I am needed to,” added the former India spinner.
Harbhajan and Dhoni’s last appearance together for India
Harbhajan and Dhoni last played together for India in an ODI against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in October 2015. Harbhajan was sidelined from the Indian team following the 2015 ODI World Cup and retired from all forms of cricket in 2021. Harbhajan and Dhoni played hundreds of matches together for India across formats and played their part in the team’s success.
Harbhajan won his 4th IPL title as a player under Dhoni’s captaincy with CSK in 2018. He also played an instrumental role in helping the Men in Yellow reach the final in IPL 2019 with 16 wickets from 11 matches at an economy of 7.09. Harbhajan played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs and 28 T20Is for India with 417. 269 and 25 wickets in the three formats, respectively.
