New Delhi: In the battle between the Premier League strugglers Everton and Wolves, it’s the Toffees that are coming out on top currently as they head into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead. The Toffees, playing infront of their home crowd, have completely dominated the proceedings despite seeing less of the ball during the first half. Goals from veteran Ashley Young and summer signing Orel Mangala has set them nicely on course to a victory.
Ashley Young, making his 12th appearance of the season for the hosts, opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the game. The Toffees were awarded a freekick just outside the penalty box as Wolves’ defender Hugo Bueno fouled Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Young stepped up to take the resulting free-kick and curled the effort around wall and into the bottom corner to score 50th Premier League goal of his career and the first this season.

His 10th minute strike etched his name in the history books forever as at the age of 39 years and 148 days, he marked quite a few records to his name. With his goal against Wolves, he became the oldest player in the Premier League to score from a direct freekick, while also becoming the oldest ever player to score his 50th Premier League goal. Add to that, he also became the fourth-oldest scorer in the league’s history.
He also became the oldest player to score a goal in the 2024/25 Premier League season, thus racking up a number of records to his name. Funnily enough, a man named Young is racking up all the awards for being amongst the oldest goal scorers. The 39-year-old’s goal set up a good platform for the Toffees to establish their stronghold in the game and they did just that following on from it.
More Misery on Gary O’Neil’s Wolves

Gary O’Neil’s Wolves have had an awful start to the season and find themselves in the relegation dogfight. Wolves currently occupy the 18th spot in the league table and are staring at the face of relegation after only two wins and eight defeats in 13 games and are on course for their ninth defeat of the season. The noose is surely tightening around Gary O’Neil’s neck after another poor showing tonight against an opposition that are around them in the league table.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors as shortly after the restart, an own goal from Craig Dawson made it 3-0 in favour of Everton, making a comeback for Wolves extremely unlikely. With another potential defeat tonight for O’Neil’s side and a number of quality options available in the market, it might be end of his spell as Wolves manager with out of work managers like David Moyes and Graham Potter being linked with the Wolves job.
Everton’s winger turned right back scored an exquisite free-kick against fellow strugglers Wolves to give his side the lead and etched his name in the history books by doing so. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
