With multiple records in sight, Virat Kohli aims to rekindle Adelaide love affair

New Delhi: If Virat Kohli was given a choice to choose a place to get his mojo back, Australia would have been his preferred destination. If he was asked to choose a venue in Australia, Adelaide Oval would be on the top of his list. After all, Kohli has enjoyed unprecedented success in Australia with Adelaide Oval proving to be his favourite hunting ground.

Of the 10 international centuries he has scored on Australian soil, five have come at the Adelaide Oval – the most number of centuries Kohli has scored at a single venue. Of the five, three have come in Test cricket. The Indian star has scored 509 Test runs at a stunning average of 63.62 in Adelaide.

On the back of a magnificent century in the Perth Test, Kohli has a golden opportunity to continue his love affair with the Adelaide Oval.

The pink-ball Test in Adelaide will present a massive challenge to India. Australia have won seven out of seven day-night Tests at the Adelaide Oval but Kohli won’t have that record in mind when he takes the field on Friday as he himself has plenty of records in sight.

Most hundreds by a batter in a visiting nation

Virat Kohli stands on the brink of matching or surpassing the legendary Australian batter Don Bradman’s all-time record. Kohli has scored 10 centuries from 43 matches in Australia and is just one century away from equalling Bradman’s 76-year-old record. The iconic Aussie batter, who scored 11 tons from 19 games in England between 1930 and 1948, holds the record for the most international centuries by a batter in a visiting nation.

Iconic batters like Jack Hobbs (9 centuries in Australia), Sachin Tendulkar (9 centuries in Sri Lanka), Vivian Richards (8 centuries in England) and Sunil Gavaskar (7 centuries in West Indies) are also part of the elusive list.

Most Test tons at the Adelaide Oval

With 3 Test centuries at the Adelaide Oval, Kohli sits at joint-top in the list of visiting with most hundreds at the iconic Australian venue. If he notches up a century in the second Test against Australia, he will have four centuries in Adelaide, which will take him above legendary England batter Jack Hobbs to become the visiting batter with most centuries at the Adelaide Oval.

Most centuries in BGT

Kohli also has the chance to surpass his idol and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in the Adelaide Test. If he manages to reach the three-figure mark, Kohli will become the first player to score 10 centuries in the history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Delhi dasher will overtake Tendulkar as the player with the most centuries in BGT. Tendulkar has scored nine centuries in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy – the joint-most along with Kohli – in the history of the iconic series.

Most runs at the Adelaide Oval

Kohli, who has amassed 509 Test runs at the Adelaide Oval, is only 102 runs away from breaking another big record.  If the modern-day great scores 102 more runs in the second Test, he will break Brian Lara’s long-standing record of most runs by a visiting player at the iconic. The West Indies legend scored 610 Test runs at the Adelaide Oval, which is currently the most by a visiting batter at this venue. Kohli needs 44 more runs to overtake iconic West Indies batter Vic Richards’ record of 552 runs at the Adelaide Oval.

Virat Kohli is poised to break multiple records during the second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, a venue where he enjoys batting more than anywhere else in the world.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
