Pahalgam terror attack: India cracks whip on Pakistan as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan’s Instagram accounts blocked

New Delhi: India has cracked the whip on the Pakistan cricketers post the Pahalgam terror attack as the Instagram accounts of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been blocked in India. This has been done owing to a legal request to restrict content. The action has been taken after the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.

Earlier in the week, Pakistan’s javelin star Arshad Nadeem’s Instagram account was also blocked in India. On Friday, users who tried to open the Instagram pages of Babar and Rizwan got a pop-up message saying: ‘Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.’

Instagram accounts of several Pakistani cricketers blocked

Media reports also suggest that former pacer Shoaib Akhtar, fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf’s Instagram pages have also been blocked in the country. Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi, legendary Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younis still have their accounts active and running in India.

The Government of India has been coming down heavily on Pakistani social media accounts which have a significant reach in the country. In the last week, several Pakistani YouTube channels were also blocked in India which included channels of Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar and Basit Ali. Users in the country can no longer view the videos posted on their accounts.

Apart from the cricketers, Instagram accounts of several Pakistan celebrities like Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, who featured in few Bollywood movies, have also been blocked in India. Ahead of this, the live streaming and broadcast of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on FanCode was also stopped.
