Mumbai: The Pantone Colour Institute introduced the Pantone Colour of the Year educational program in 1999 as a way to spark dialogue among the global design community and colour enthusiasts. The initiative was designed to underscore the connection between culture and colour, illustrating how global events, societal trends, and emotions find expression through the universal language of colour.
Each year, the global colour industry designates a shade as the ‘Colour of the Year,’ setting the tone for upcoming trends. On December 5, 2024, Pantone, the leader in the colour industry, unveiled its much-anticipated Colour of the Year for 2025.
The chosen colour influences trends across industries such as interior design, fashion, and beyond for 2025. Experts and public voters carefully select the shade, considering various cultural and design factors. Pantone also provides a universal colour language that assists brands and manufacturers in making precise, colour-driven decisions throughout the production process.

Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse: A Colour of Harmony for 2025
Pantone has unveiled Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse as its 2025 Color of the Year, chosen for its warmth and evocative nature.
The Pantone Color of the Year program, celebrating its 26th anniversary, is less about trend forecasting and more about mirroring the collective emotional and cultural climate.
Mocha Mousse is a natural progression from 2024’s ‘Peach Fuzz,’ which symbolised cosiness and comfort. This rich, brown hue evokes a sense of authenticity and groundedness, further emphasised by its descriptive name that conjures images of a warm and inviting treat. The shade is part of a growing palette of neutral tones celebrated for being genderless, versatile, and rooted in nature.
This earthy colour feels like a return to simplicity—a foundational shade that resonates with authenticity and practicality.
Pantone Colour System
To determine the Pantone Colour of the Year, experts at the Pantone Colour Institute explore global influences across various fields. These include the entertainment industry, ongoing films, art exhibitions, emerging artists, fashion, design trends, and aspirational travel destinations.
Additionally, socio-economic shifts, new lifestyles, technologies, materials, textures, and even major sporting events contribute to the decision.
Relied by over 10 million designers and producers worldwide, the Pantone system is crucial for standardising and communicating colours across different materials, finishes, and industries, including fashion, graphics, and product design. The Colour of the Year selection process takes into account two primary categories: the Matching System (PMS) and the Fashion and Home Interiors System, tailored to meet diverse needs.
Earlier this year, Pantone revealed Peach Fuzz as its 2024 Colour of the Year, describing the pinkish-coral shade as “a gentle and nurturing soft peach tone that embodies heartfelt kindness.” Looking ahead, 2025’s palette is predicted to embody themes of authenticity, joyful individualism, and optimism, aligning with Laurie Pressman’s insights as Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
To build excitement, Pantone’s countdown clock allowed enthusiasts to guess the winning shade from ten colour families.
