New Delhi: Indian players missed the opportunity to find the early breakthrough against Australia in the opening day of the pink-ball day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval on Friday. There was an error of judgement from wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant after speedster Jasprit Bumrah induced an edge of Australian opener Nathan McSweeney.
Pant dived to his right for an attempt to pouch the thick outside edge from the Australian youngster, though he could just get a tip of glove to the ball as the ball swung late when it came to his reach. As a result, the ball deflected from Pant’s glove and deflected toward skipper Rohit Sharma, who was positioned at the first slip. Rohit was left in pain as the ball struck his hand and he was seen in grimace.
The ball later moved to the third man as McSweeney and Usman Khawaja plundered a couple of runs between the wickets. There was a bit of disappointment on Bumrah’s face as the chance was missed for an early wicket.

However, Bumrah found success in the 11th over with the dismissal of Khawaja and it was Rohit who completed the catch this time. The Queensland batter scored 13 runs off 35 balls, hitting a couple of boundaries from his willow.
Mitchell Starc dismantles India
In the absence of Josh Hazlewood, left-arm quick Mitchell Starc breathed fire to put the Indian batting unit in tatters. He claimed the scalp of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the very first ball of the innings, pinning him for leg-before-wicket to give Australia a fabulous start to the game. He went on to muster figures of 6 for 48 as the visitors were shot down for 180 in 44.1 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored with 42 runs while batting at No.7.
