WATCH: Mitchell Starc destroys Shubman Gill’s stumps with an absolute ripper

New Delhi: Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc produced a classical delivery to dismantle the stumps of Indian batter Shubman Gill on the second day of the second Test in Adelaide. The left-arm quick pitched it full and the ball came in late as the batter went to drive but deceived him and knocked off the middle stump. It was an absolute cracker and that was the first wicket for Starc in the second innings.

This is also the first time that Starc has dismissed Gill in Test cricket, having faced each other in seven Test matches since 2020. Gill made 28 runs from 30 balls with three boundaries coming through his blade.

Starc pinned Indian skipper Rohit Sharma plumb before the stumps for lbw only for the over-stepping no-ball to deny him the dismissal in the same over. He would have made it two wickets in the same over itself.

Rohit later hit Starc for a boundary but then couldn’t stay at the crease for a long period as counterpart Pat Cummins breached the defence. A good length ball with angling inside wasn’t the one for Rohit to fathom and the Indian skipper defended it on backfoot. The ball hit the top of the off-stump and India lost its fifth wicket.

Earlier in the Indian innings, openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t replicate their heroics of Perth against the pink ball. While Rahul made seven, the left-handed batter Jaiswal added 24 runs before Cummins and Scott Boland returned with their dismissals, respectively.

Boland later induced the outside edge of Virat Kohli to pick the big wicket for Australia, his second of the wicket. Australia looked in powerful touch after Travis Head powered them to 157-run lead with a scintillating century.

Mitchell Starc showcased exceptional bowling in the second Test against India in Adelaide. He spectacularly bowled Shubman Gill for a classic stumping, marking his first Test dismissal of the Indian batter. Starc also nearly claimed Rohit Sharma lbw, only for a no-ball to intervene.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
