New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has defended star batter Virat Kohli after his cheap dismissal on the second day of the second Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Kohli was dismissed on just 11 runs on the second day as Scott Boland bowled an outside off delivery, exploiting his weakness and the former Indian skipper succumbed.
This happened to be the second successive failure for the star batter as earlier in the first innings, he was dismissed for just 7 runs by Mitchell Starc. Meanwhile, Gavaskar felt that Kohli couldn’t do anything different on that ball as it was a peach to get rid of a batter who’s considered one of the best in the world.
‘Really quality bowling, this was really a peach of a delivery which he got. You see earlier on, around the off, he’s been leaving the ball quite well. He’s not pushing at the ball, the thing is that sometimes he tends to push at deliveries. There was nothing wrong with, with what he did. It was just a superb delivery to get rid of a world-class batter,’ said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
India in a precarious position
India are left in a precarious position after losing five wickets at stumps on the second day. With a trail of 29 more runs and only two genuine batters on the crease, they will have to work really hard if they aim to survive in the game. Both Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy looked promising during the last minutes of the game after India lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma.
Meanwhile, Australia are in the driving seat as they need just 5 wickets to get rid of the entire Indian line up and chase whatever little score India are able to make. For both Pant and Reddy, it will become imperative to come up with great knocks on the third day.
