New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is facing immense pressure from all corners as the deadlock continues regarding the Champions Trophy 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been involved in a long-standing tussle over the tournament’s venue after the Indian cricket board made it clear that Team India won’t travel to Pakistan for the competition.
BCCI’s refusal meant ICC had to convince the PCB to accept the proposal of a hybrid model for the tournament which would allow the Indian team to play their matches at a neutral venue. While several reports have claimed PCB have agreed to accept a hybrid model for the tournament, the Pakistan board has put forth some conditions for both BCCI and ICC.
PCB has demanded a similar hybrid model to be followed for the future ICC tournaments hosted by India which will allow Pakistan to not travel to the country and play their matches at a neutral venue. PCB wants all ICC tournaments till 2027 to follow a hybrid model, including the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup and the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup in India.
PCB’s big demand to end Champions Trophy stalemate
As per a report in the news agency IANS, the Pakistan Cricket Board wants written assurance from ICC that a hybrid model will be implemented for all ICC tournaments in India till 2027 before proceeding with the hybrid model for Champions Trophy 2025. The report further states that an official decision on the tournament is likely to be taken by Wednesday, December 11.
“Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants a written assurance from the World body (ICC) regarding a hybrid model for the future international events to be hosted by India. Decision on Champions Trophy most likely by Wednesday,” a source close to the development was quoted as saying by IANS.
Dubai likely to host India’s matches in Champions Trophy 2025
If a hybrid model is agreed for the Champions Trophy 2025, India are likely to play all their matches in Dubai. If India make it to the semi-finals or final, the knockout matches will also be held in Dubai. As per IANS, the Emirates Cricket Board has already begun preparations to host the India matches in Dubai, including the marquee clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. They are also keeping a close eye on the developments regarding Champions Trophy 2025.
The tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to end soon as an official decision on the Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to arrive by Wednesday, December 11.
