Litton Das appointed Bangladesh skipper for T20I series against West Indies

New Delhi: Bangladesh named Litton Das as captain for their three-match T20I away against West Indies beginning on December 15 for which they have named a 15-man squad.

It is the first time that Das has been asked to lead for an entire series, having filled in once for Mahmudullah on their tour of New Zealand in April 2021.

The T20I series will round off Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies which began with a 1-1 draw in a two-match Test series, followed by the ongoing three-match ODI series.

Najmul Hossain Shanto was the captain of the T20I squad in their last series in India but since he is currently sidelined with a groin injury, Das was chosen as the skipper.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the skipper in the two-Test series against West Indies and is also leading them in the ongoing ODI series but wasn’t preferred for his patchy form in the 20-over format.

Aim at transition

With an eye of rebuilding after the retirements of Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh have brought back Shamim Hossain, who returns after last played in a T20I in December 2023 against New Zealand.

Also returning are top-order batter Soumya Sarkar, middle-order batter Afif Hossain, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, fast bowler Hasan Mahmud and medium-fast bowler Ripon Mondol.

Towhid Hridoy, who is suffering from a groin injury, Mustafizur Rahman, who is on paternity leave and Rakibul Hasan were not included.

The squad:

Litton Kumar Das (Captain), Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Hasan Mahmud, Ripon Mondol
