New Delhi: Former WWE development wrestler Mike Taylor (Michael Sharrer) passed away at the age of 47. The news of his sudden demise came overnight and has engulfed the pro wrestling world. He was signed by WWE in 2006.
He trained and performed in the company’s developmental territories OVW and Deep South Wrestling. He occasionally appeared on WWE television. During this time, he also did motion capture work for many WWE video games.
WWE released Sharrer from his contract in 2007. After WWE, Sharrer started using the in-ring names of Micah Taylor and Sandy Beach (in Hawaii and Japan). He also wrestled regularly on the independent circuits in the southern states of Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama.
Under the Sandy Beach name, he toured with ZERO-ONE in Japan and wrestled in many countries, including the UK and Korea.
Mike Mondo, Matt Cardona paid tributes
His friend and former WWE star Mike Mondo paid tribute to him on social media and said his death isn’t an easy one and he’s doing his best to process the news. He further said that Mike was his friend on OVW and they were talking to each other a couple of weeks ago. Mondo also said that Mike treated him like a younger brother and is grateful for all the great time with him.
“I’m grateful for all the great times we had in Louisville & of course the countless shoots on the west coast doing mocap. Those memories will last forever. I pray for Mikes family during this difficult time especially his kids Isaiah & Mina. I love you Big Mike. A-team for life. RIP buddy” Mondo wrote on Facebook.
Matt Cardona also said that Mike was a leader and he always looked up to him.
RIP @Micahtaylor01! When I got signed to WWE in 2006, I had to move to McDonough, GA to go to Deep South Wrestling. Mike was already there. He was the man! He couldn’t have been cooler. He was a leader and I looked up to him. I’ll miss him! Try to find some High Impact matches on… pic.twitter.com/Zd84qcsIuF
