New Delhi: The Champions Trophy 2025 fiasco seems like a never-ending drama as no conclusion has been reached yet. Months of suspense and speculations remain intact as the International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are yet to reach a common ground as far as then scheduling of matches are concerned.
The continuous delay in deciding the fate of the marquee ICC tournament can lead to the tournament being conducted in a T20 format instead of the regular ODI format, as reported by Cricbuzz. The report mentions that the ICC is failing to meet the contractual obligations of the stakeholders, who are under pressure to market the tournament effectively but are failing to do so.
T20I format easier to market than ODIs
If the stalemate continue to exist for a bit longer, calls might be taken by the stakeholders to convert the big ICC event into a T20 format from the regular ODI format. The reason behind this is that the stakeholders would find it easier and swifter to market the T20I format than the ODIs, which are slowly losing their solid relevance.
The report also mentions that the Pakistan Cricket Board could face revenue losses, lawsuits and also risk international alienation if they decided to walk away and withdraw from the ICC Champions Trophy. The 50-over event is scheduled to take place in February-March next year and Pakistan is the only host for the event till now.
After series of interactions and few meetings, PCB softened their stance and agreed for a hybrid model for the event but inn return, set the same conditions for the BCCI to agree upon, which they haven’t till now. If everything remains on course and the tournament takes place in a hybrid model then India in all probability will play their matches in Dubai.
The Champions Trophy 2025 fiasco seems like a never-ending drama as the ICC, BCCI and the PCB are yet to reach a middle ground for the scheduling of the event. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
