New Delhi: It was nothing short of a dream come true for Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh who etched his name in the history books on Thursday after becoming youngest world chess champion. Gukesh got the better of Chinese chess player Ding Liren, who was the title holder, in the 14th match as he carried forward the lasting legacy of the Indian great Vishwanathan Anand.

Gukesh, apart from becoming the youngest ever world chess champions at the age of 18, becomes only the second Indian player in history to have clinched the prestigious world title, beating the Chinese ace in a hard-fought match that went down to the wire. Anand owned the coveted title 5 times in his glorious career while Gukesh has bagged it for the first time, with hope of more to come.

Gukesh realises childhood dream

After the remarkable victory, Gukesh said that it was his childhood dream to bag the world chess title and he’s elated to have realised it. The new world chess champion further said that it was his decade-old dream of winning the coveted crown and he does not have words for expressing his happiness.

As soon as the new champion was saying this, one of his old videos where he made a prediction of the same went viral on social media. Gukesh had predicted of becoming the youngest world chess champion at 11 and he realised the dream 7 years later at the age of 18.
