New Delhi: Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been sidelined for around six weeks due to a new hamstring injury. Despite manager Enzo Maresca’s initial optimism that the Senegal striker had escaped a serious setback, scans have subsequently shown that the 23-year-old’s injury is more worse. He was taken off the field due to an injury sustained against West Ham two weeks ago. With nine goals this season, Jackson is Chelsea’s second-leading scorer, trailing only Cole Palmer’s 14 goals.

He is not expected to return until after the international break at the end of March, according to sources. The Spaniard Marc Guiu, who took Jackson’s place against West Ham after he was injured, suffered a major groin injury in the same game, leaving the Blues without a recognized number nine. At first, Maresca claimed that Jackson’s injury was “not a big injury,” but that 19-year-old Guiu would be sidelined for “weeks or months.”

Palmer and Christopher Nkunku, who started in Brighton’s 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round loss on Saturday, are expected to fill in for the two. Nkunku has barely featured in Chelsea’s games since his move to Stamford Bridge, but this season, it is much better for the Frenchman. Although he has barely started any games for thre Blues, he has managed to make 20 apperances, with just three stars and rest from the bench. As for the star man Cole Palmer, there’s no doubt about the fact that he has been their best player on the pitch but playing as a centre forward might restrict his style of play.

Maresca’s team, currently ranked fourth in the Premier League, will make another league trip to Brighton on Friday. It is a crucial game for the Blues as they can’t afford another slip-up. The two sides will be facing each other for the second consecutive matchday, this time at Amex. Brighton managed to sink the Blues at Stamford Bridge last Sunday, which makes it an important fixture for the Blues.

Further bad news for Chelsea and Enzo Maresca, as an hamstring injury will keep Nicolas Jackson out for the next six weeks.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
