New Delhi: A franchise owner in the Lanka T10 Super League has been arrested by Sri Lanka’s Sports Police Unit after the allegations of match-fixing.
Prem Thakur, the owner of Galle Marvels, was arrested for match-fixing in the Lanka T10 Super League on Thursday. The league is being played at the Pakllekele Stadium in Kandy. The Police also released a statement and said that the Galle Marvels team owner was arrested and will be produced in court before Friday.
“The owner of the ‘Galle Marvels’ team in the Lanka T10 Super League, was arrested and will be produced before court on Friday” Police said. The arrest was made after an overseas player filed a complaint against him, claiming to have been approached for match-fixing but the player has rejected his request to fix a match.
The authorities have now started an investigation into the incident, which has raised concerns about the integrity of the tournament in its first season.
Jaffna Titans in first position Lanka T10 points table
The Lanka T10 Super League started on December 11 and the final will be played on December 19 at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. The six participating franchises in the tournament are Colombo Jaguars, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Titans, Hambantota Bangla Tigers, Kandy Bolts, and Nuwara Eliya Kings.
All the teams will play against each other in the round-robin format and after the conclusion, the top two teams from the points table will play Qualifier 1 and the winner of this match will directly secure a spot in the final.
The loser of the Qualifier 1 will face the winner of the Eliminator on December 18. The Eliminator will be played between the third and fourth-ranked teams and is set to be played on December 18 as well.
So far all the teams have played two matches in the tournament and Jaffna Titans is in the first position with 4 points while Galle Marvels is in the second spot with three points. Nuwara Eliya Kings is third on the points table with two points.
