New Delhi: Star batter Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket after playing 123 Test matches for India, scoring 9230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. Recently, he helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to lift their maiden IPL title.

Kohli scored 657 runs in the IPL 2025 and was the third-highest run-getter of the tournament. Kohli termed the IPL title win “five levels under Test cricket”. Former Australian captain Michael Clarke believes the star batter will come out of Test retirement if the Men in Blue get beaten badly in the upcoming five-match Test series against England.

Clarke said that he thinks if Kohli was asked by the captain, selectors and if Team India gets beaten big time in England, Kohli will come out the retirement. “He still loves Test cricket. I think his words, I think those words, like you could hear his passion for Test cricket is real,” Clarke told the Beyond23 Cricket podcast on Friday.

Clarke further said that the Men in Blue would miss both Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who also announced his retirement from Test cricket ahead of the England tour, but backed the young players and captain Shubman Gill.

The former Australian captain also praised young batter Sai Sudharsan and called him a future star in all formats. He also said that Sudharsan is technically sound, mentally ready, and a natural number three for Test cricket.

He also talked about the recent stampede in Bengaluru during RCB’s victory celebration and said that it’s devastating. “Hopefully, we never see something like this again. The fans and players should be able to celebrate together, but it has to be done safely. My thoughts are with all the families. It was a tragic end to what had been an incredible season,” Clarke added.
