Health on razor’s edge? Shantanu Deshpande junks quick food delivery: Here’s why

New Delhi: Bombay Shaving Company founder and CEO Shantanu Deshpande said it was alarming that quick food delivery minimised the cooking time and prioritised on-time delivery to make a casualty of nutrition. Deshpande cited his conversation with quick commerce for food company founder as the basis for his concern in the LinkedIn post.

The Bombay Shaving Company founder raised a broader point around the consumer culture wherein he questioned why those who ordered food online required faster food delivery. He wondered whether those ordering quicker meals were too lazy to put cooker on the stove or unable to wait 15 minutes extra for their food, pointing towards an instant gratification culture which makes light of a properly cooked meal.

Why quick meals may hit long term health

Shedding light on the cooking process, Deshpande said that meals were often garnished with coriander to give them a semblance of freshness. However, most likely the dish was packed with frozen puree and curries. Most likely vegetables are reheated to speed up the process. He said delivery executives rush like Mad Max to deliver the food to consumers’ doorstep in 10 minutes. Investors are using fancy words to promote the next wave of Indian commerce, said Deshpande. He also urged quick commerce companies such as Zomato, Swiggy and Zepto to cut back on jargon and “make the product palatable.”

While showing optimism regarding innovation in the field of food delivery serving non-stale and decent food in 10 minutes. Deshpande broadened his argument to urge consumers to consider cooking dal chawal, or making a smoothie, salad or sandwich in 10 minutes,” he said. He tagged food nutrition blogger Revant Himatsingka to make a point about how ‘You are what you eat’ and how being mindful about meetings can help consumers to curb long term health issues.

Bombay Shaving Company founder and CEO Shantanu Deshpande raised concerns around the nutrition value of food delivered by quick food delivery aggregators. He also urged consumers to think through whether they were too busy to cook a simple meal.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
