New Delhi: UEFA announced on Monday that the 16 nations competing in the 2025 Women’s European Championship will split 41 million euros ($43 million), more than doubling the prize money from the last tournament. According to a decision made by UEFA’s executive committee on Monday, each federation would get a minimum of 1.8 million euros ($1.9 million) for participating in Euro 2025 in Switzerland, and they must distribute at least 30% of the funds among the players.
Up to 5.1 million euros ($5.35 million) can be earned by the victor of the title. At a daily rate of 657 euros ($690) per player, the clubs whose players participate in the competition will split 6 million euros ($6.3 million). Compared to the last women’s Euros, that is a 33% overall gain.

With a total revenue of roughly 2.4 billion euros ($2.5 billion), the men’s Euro 2024 competition included a prize money of 331 million euros ($347 million). At least 9.25 million euros ($9.7 million) were awarded to each of the 24 participating teams, with title-winning Spain taking home 28.25 million ($29.6 million). In other choices, UEFA announced that the victor of the quarterfinal between Italy and Germany will host the men’s Nations League Final Four mini-tournament in June of next year.
Germany would host the competition in Munich and Stuttgart, while Italy would hold it in Turin. Additionally, Italy was chosen to host the 2025 UEFA Super Cup match between the Champions League and Europa League champions at Udinese Stadium on August 13. According to UEFA, the Women’s Europa Cup will be the new second tier club competition that debuts the following season.

As teams like England, Spain, and Germany learn who they will play when they arrive in Switzerland in July, the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 group stage draw on Monday will intensify the anticipation for the competition next summer. There will undoubtedly be some interesting groupings formed as well, with the hosts in Pot 1, the holders in Pot 2, and potentially threatening countries like the Netherlands and Sweden in Pot 3.
After defeating Germany 2-1 in extra time at Wembley in the 2022 final, England will be the tournament’s defending champions. Since that victory, the Lionesses have had success, making it to their first-ever Women’s World Cup final, but losing to another European country in Spain. The fact that those two will play each other twice before the tournament starts, in the new Women’s Nations League campaign that starts in February, adds intrigue to the build-up to this Euros.
However, there are many more teams vying for this title, such as Germany, who have won eight times, the Netherlands, who won the championship in 2017, and Sweden and France, who were both semi-finalists in 2022.
