AUS vs IND 3rd Test: Josh Hazlewood leaves field on Day 4 after calf concerns sour

New Delhi: Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood suffered an injury in the middle of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match against India. On Tuesday, the right-arm fast bowler sustained calf soreness while bowling the 27th over of the Indian innings. Incidentally, it was the only over bowled by Hazlewood on the fourth day.

He never returned to action for the remaining part of the first session and left the field. According to Cricket Australia, the 33-year-old Hazlewood will be taking scans in order for his injury assessment.

“Josh Hazlewood reported calf awareness in this morning’s warm-up. He will be taken for scans to assess the injury,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Hazlewood only returned back to the Australian playing XI after regaining full fitness with his side strain problems, which forced him out of selection for the pink-ball day-night second Test match in Adelaide. He replaced Scott Boland to find his place back.

How Hazlewood’s injury can impact Australia in Brisbane Test

The Australian speedster claimed the crucial wicket of Indian batter Virat Kohli, who tried to play the ball pitched outside the off-stump, and Alex Carey eventually carried the ball after the nick. In case if Hazlewood’s injury is considered to be serious then he might be ruled out for the remaining part of the match, which would mean Australia will be a bowler short, though they can avail the services of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in full swing manner.

On the star of Day 4, Australia skipper Pat Cummins removed his counterpart Rohit Sharma earlier in the day. KL Rahul played a fabulous knock of 84 before he was dismissed by off-spinner Nathan Lyon just before the lunchbreak. Australia will have to restrict India under 246 in case they want to enforce the follow-on.
