New Delhi: Matchday 16 of the Premier League has ended with a draw between Bournemouth and West Ham United. While West Ham would have continued in the 14th place, Bournemouth have climbed above Aston Villa and are now just two points behind the reigning champions Manchester City.
Owing to their five back-to-back wins, Chelsea are now in second place on the Premier League table. Their 2-1 win against Brentford means they have just a point difference with Liverpool. The win has put them in serial contention for the title race. The Reds, on the other hand, just added a single point this week, playing back-to-back draws, accumulating 36 points from 15 games, with the Merseyside derby getting postponed due to poor weather conditions.
Arsenal have retained their third place this week after playing a goalless draw against Everton. At the Emirates Stadium, The Gunners, though, were a more dominating side between the two; they were not able to break through the Toffee’s defence. Nottingham’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa means the Garibaldis are now in fourth place and are now in the Champions League qualification zone. It was a close game, with Arsenal going into the lead in the 63rd minute only to be equalized in the dying minutes of the game before conceding again in the stoppage time.
Manchester City slipped into the fifth place after losing the Manchester derby in the final minutes. City have won just once in their last eleven games, losing five games in the Premier League season. Their performance against Manchester United was, in particular, below par as they lost the game after being in the lead for 88 minutes. The weekend has so far seen two managers being fired of the two bottom-placed teams, West Ham and Southampton. Both teams, along with Ipswich Town, failed to climb out from the relegation zone.
