New Delhi: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 (PMAY 2.0) was launched recently by the Centre with the motive of providing financial assistance to economically weaker sections for their housing needs. Under PMAY 2.0, there is a provision for the construction of 1 lakh new housing units. The scheme will provide a subsidy of RS 2.3 lakh on each of these units.

The government cleared 1.18 lakh houses under the first version of PMAY-Urban scheme. So far, 8.55 lakh houses have been completed under the scheme. PMAY scheme has multiple components, from beneficiary-led construction to affordable housing in partnership, and from affordable rental housing to interest subsidy scheme.

Govt to assist in construction of 2 crore new homes under PMAY-Gramin
The Union Cabinet gave its nod for the construction of 2 crore more homes under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) between FY25 and FY29. The Centre will provide assistance worth Rs.1.20 lakh in the plains and Rs.1.30 lakh in the Northeastern region states. The Centre will also provide assistance to the tune of Rs 1.30 lakh for hill states such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well as the Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, according to an official statement.
