New Delhi: Punjab batter Anmolpreet Singh created the record for the fastest-ever century by an Indian in List A cricket after smashing a sensational 35-ball hundred against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 on Saturday, December 21. Anmolpreet Singh broke the record held by former India batter Yusuf Pathan, who hammered a 40-ball ton for Baroda against Maharashtra in 2010.
Anmolpreet slammed a quickfire 115 off just 45 deliveries laced with 12 fours and 9 sixes to help Punjab chase down the target of 165 runs in just 12.5 overs and register a thumping 9-wicket victory in their opening game of the tournament. Anmolpreet went all gun blazing after coming out to bat at no.3 as he took the Arunachal bowlers to the cleaners en route to his stunning ton.
Anmolpreet lit up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with his dazzling knock. He joined Punjab opener Prabhsimran Singh in the middle after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed cheaply on 10 off 7 balls in the pursuit of the 165-run target in the 50-over match. The swashbuckling right-hander took little time to settle down as he went after the Arunachal bowlers from the word go.
He surpassed Yusuf by notching up his ton off just 35 balls. The former India batter had set the record with his 40-ball ton for Baroda against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2009-10. It was the third fastest List A hundred by any batter at the time. Anmilpreet’s 35-ball ton is now the 3rd fastest in List A history, placing him behind only Australia’s Jake Fraser McGurk and South Africa legend AB de Villiers.
Fastest centuries in men’s List A cricket (by balls):
29 balls – Jake Fraser-McGurk (South Australia) vs Tasmania, 2023
31 balls – AB de Villiers (South Africa) vs West Indies, 2015
35 balls – Anmolpreet Singh (Punjab) vs Arunachal Pradesh, 2024*
De Villiers had broken the record for the fastest List A century at the time when he completed his hundred off just 31 balls en route to his sensational 44-ball 149 for South Africa in an ODI against West Indies in Johannesburg in January 2015. The South African legend still holds the record for the fastest ton by any batter in ODI history.
His List A record stood until last year when Aussie opener Fraser-McGurk smashed a stunning 29-ball ton for South Australia in a losing cause against Tasmania. Anmolpreet is now right behind the duo with his 35-ball hundred against Arunachal on Saturday.
Which IPL team does Anmolpreet Singh play for?
Anmolpreet went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction earlier this year and is not part of any squad for the next season. He has earlier played for the likes of Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Anmolpreet had listed himself at a base price of Rs 30 lakh at the IPL 2025 mega auction but found no takers.
