390! Bengal women record highest-ever chase in women’s List A cricket

New Delhi: Haryana batter Shafali Verma’s blistering knock went in vain as Bengal scripted the history by chasing the highest total in a women’s List A match. During the quarterfinal match of the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy played in Rajkot on Monday, Bengal chased a monumental target of 390 with five balls and five wickets to spare.

Shafali played a whirlwind knock to turn the fortunes of her form, blazing 197 runs from 115 balls to lead Haryana’s charge with 22 boundaries and 11 sixes. Composed fifties from Reema Sisodia (58 runs off 72 balls) and Sonia Mendhiya (61 runs off 41 balls) were instrumental in Haryana putting up 389 for 5 on the board.

In a befitting response, Bengal openers Dhara Gujjar (69 runs off 49 balls) and Sasthi Mondal (52 runs off 29 balls) scored brisk half-centuries to set the tone for the herculean task at the Niranjan Stadium Ground C in Rajkot. The openers built an imperative stand of 100 runs before Sasthi departed in 9.1 overs.

Tanusree, Priyanka carry on show paved by openers

It was just the momentum that Bengal had to ride on and that’s when Tanusree Sarkar held the mantle by playing a determined knock to keep the runs flowing en route to her three-figure score. Dhara and Mita Paul departed in quick succession, but Bengal were in complete control with Tanusree toying with the Haryana bowler’s gameplan, hammering 20 boundaries. It was all about the classic stroke-making quality as Bengal only hit four sixes throughout the massive chase, but found the gaps 49 times to push the ball to the cushion.

Bengal wicketkeeper-batter Priyanka Bala remained unbeaten at 88 to take her side past the finishing line as the record books had one big note to mention – the highest chase in a women’s List A match by Bengal women cricket team.

Northern Districts women’s team held the previous record for highest chase of 309 runs against Canterbury women in New Zealand Cricket Women’s One Day Competition on March 2, 2019.

Haryana’s Shafali Verma smashed a breathtaking 197 runs, but Bengal achieved a historic victory in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, successfully chasing down a record-breaking 390 runs—the highest ever in a women’s List A match.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
