New Delhi: With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 evenly poised at 1-1, Rohit Sharma and team would be aiming to make a mark in the all crucial Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from Thursday. India would be aiming to stretch their dominance at the MCG as they enjoy a fabulous record at the venue.
Team India has remained unbeaten at the iconic MCG since the 2014 series but keeping the team’s current form in consideration, it will be a tad difficult for them as the batters have proved to be the weakest point for the side, who played a crucial role in the team’s previous matches at the venue. The solid Indian batters, apart from KL Rahul, have failed to show up consistency in the first three Test matches, including the biggies.
Changes expected in India squad
For Team India, some changes would be expected in the playing XI as skipper Rohit Sharma might return to the top spot with an aim to return to form. Rohit has been batting at number 6 in the last two Test matches at Adelaide and Brisbane and promoted Rahul to bat up the order. If this change happens, Rahul will most expectedly drop down to the number 3 spot or at number 5 or 6.
Although, the bowling department has been fairly good for the visitors, yet a possibility of including an extra spinner in the form of Washington Sundar is there. He could possibly pair with Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been mediocre in the previous games, might be left out. Meanwhile, Australia have already declared that Sam Konstas will make his Test debut in the Boxing Day match.
