Sensational Corbin Bosch becomes first South African ever to achieve rare Test feat

New Delhi: Debutant Corbin Bosch etched his name in the history books with a sensational half-century down the order to strengthen South Africa’s position over Pakistan in the Centurion Test. History was scripted when the young player became the the first-ever South African to score a half-century and take 4 wickets on Test debut.

The sensational Bosch claimed figures of 4/63 with the ball on the opening day and then smashed an unbeaten 81 off just 93 balls with the bat on the second day. The 30-year old was handed a Test debut in place of Keshav Maharaj, who could not participate in the match due to an injury. He impressed with the ball taking a wicket on the very first delivery he bowled.

First SA player, third overall to achieve the feat

While he became the first Proteas player to record the feat, overall, he became the third player to achieve the miraculous record. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and New Zealand’s Tim Southee are the other two cricketers to have achieved the historic record. Interestingly, Hasaranga achieved the feat at this very same venue in the year 2020. Bosch is just the 16th person in Test history overall to achieve this rare feat.

Meanwhile, in reply to Pakistan’s first innings score of 211, South Africa mustered 301 runs with a lead of 90 runs in the first innings. Pakistan in reply faltered to a certain extent and lost three wickets but ended up with score of 88, trail the Proteas just by 2 runs before bad light stopped the play at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. On the third day, the visitors would try their best to secure as much lead as possible.
