New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah finally managed to complete a well-deserved five-wicket haul on Day 5 of the ongoing 4th Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday after cleaning up Nathan Lyon with a ripper. Bumrah had missed out on a fifer on Day 4 after Lyon survived courtesy of a no-ball from the Indian pacer in the final over of the day’s play.

However, Bumrah returned to complete his fifer early in the morning session on Day 5 by removing Lyon on his overnight score of 41 as India bundled out the hosts for 234 runs in their second innings, conceding a lead of 339 runs. It took Bumrah just 4 balls to get through Lyon’s defence and send him packing on Day 5.

The pacer came up with a fullish delivery shaping into the batter which ripped through Lyon’s defence and rattled his stumps. Bumrah followed it up with his signature celebration, giving Lyon a stare-down while the Aussie tail-ender walked back to the dressing room. It was Bumrah’s 13th fifer in Test cricket and his third in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.

It was yet another bowling masterclass from the Indian pace spearhead in the second innings as he finished with impressive figures of 5/57 off his 24.4 overs at the MCG. It was also an exhausting spell for the Indian pacer, who was spotted signalling Indian skipper Rohit Sharma that he had nothing left in his tank after bowling over 20 overs on Day 4.

Fastest Indian pacer to 200 Test wickets

Earlier, Bumrah achieved another milestone in his career as he surpassed the legendary Kapil Dev to become the fastest Indian pacer to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket. Bumrah achieved the feat after picking 4 wickets on Day 4 of the ongoing Melbourne Test. He completed 200 Test wickets for India in 44 Test matches, leaving behind Kapil, who achieved the milestone in 50 Test matches.

Bumrah is currently the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with an impressive 30 wickets from just 4 matches at an average of 12.83, including 3 fifers.
