Maha Kumbh 2025: Indian Railways’ QR Code initiative for seamless travel

New Delhi: Mahakumbh Mela, which takes place once every 12 years, is all set to open its doors to devotees from every corner of the world. Mahakumbh is one of the world’s biggest and most important spiritual gatherings, attracting not just pilgrims but also ascetics and tourists. Maha Kumbh 2025 is scheduled from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

There is good news if you plan to visit Maha Kumbh this year. Indian Railways has announced a digital initiative to ensure that visitors arriving at the holy city of Prayagraj are not inconvenienced. The Indian Railways has already made extensive arrangements for pilgrims visiting Mahakumbh and introduced 13,000 special trains.

Maha Kumbh 2025: QR Code Ticket Booking System for Pilgrims

Indian Railways has introduced a new digital initiative to facilitate ticketing. The Prayagraj division of the North Central Railway has launched a QR code system.

Here’s how it will work

During the Mahakumbh, specially trained railway staff will be at Prayagraj Junction and other important locations. You can recognise them with green jackets with a QR code on the back.

Scanning this QR code with your smartphone lets you download the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile app. This app lets you book unreserved tickets easily, allowing you to avoid long lines and enjoy your journey more.

Goal of this initiative

Indian Railways has introduced QR Code Jackets for Maha Kumbh attendees to streamline train ticket booking. Staff will wear jackets with QR codes that, when scanned, allow devotees to download the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app on their smartphones.

This initiative aims to expedite ticket booking, reduce wait times, and avoid crowded counters amidst the expected attendance of over 40 crore devotees.

In preparation, Indian Railways will run 3,124 special mela trains and 10,100 regular trains from January 10 to February 28.

Prayagraj railway station will have 278 ticket counters to accommodate up to 10,15,200 passengers daily. The digital ticketing solution supports India’s push for cashless transactions. It promotes the Digital India mission.

Mahakumbh Rail Seva 2025 App

The Railways has launched the Mahakumbh Rail Seva 2025 app and portal. This app will help you find train schedules, guest house information, and helpline numbers.

There are 28 guest houses that can accommodate 1.3 lakh devotees. A toll-free number, 1800-4199-139, has been available since November 1, 2024.

From January 1, 2025, the helpline was open 24/7. Railway announcements will be made in 12 languages, including Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Odia, Punjabi, and Assamese.

Indian Railways is implementing a new digital initiative to streamline Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 travel. Railway staff in Prayagraj will wear QR code jackets linking to the UTS app for easy unreserved ticket booking.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
