Newcastle vs Tottenham: Who’s on Tuchel’s England list as he watches from the stands?

New Delhi: Former Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, who officially took charge of the England National Team in this new year is slated to be in attendance for Tottenham’s visit to Newcastle this weekend. The German manager will be looking out for players that he can utilize in his tenure as England boss as his team prepares to set up for England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying, which starts on March 21, 2025 against Albania.

Tuchel will have a lot of familiar faces in his managerial set up with the Three Lions as he’s brought along assistant coach Anthony Barry, who worked with him at both Chelsea and Bayern Munich. They are now joined former Chelsea goalkeeping coach Henrique Hilario, who leaves the club after being associated with the London side since 2006, first as a player and then as a coach. The Portuguese worked with Tuchel during his time as Chelsea manager and will join him in the English National Team set-up.

Team analyst James Melbourne also joins him from Chelsea while performance coach Nicolas Mayer, who worked with Tuchel at both PSG and Bayern Munich, completes his backroom staff. Tuchel will be accompanied by his assistant Anthony Barry at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park and will be attending other league games across the weekend as well. Both Newcastle and Spurs have a big English contingent for Tuchel to assess in the game tonight.

Newcastle players that can be on Tuchel’s radar

The Magpies have a lot of English talent on their books and some of them would be hoping to get noticed by the new England boss, increasing their chances of a call-up under the German manager. Former Chelsea full-backs Tino Liveramento and Lewis Hall are both starting against Spurs and with their versatility they offer, they’d be hoping to add to their one and two England caps respectively.

Winger Anthony Gordon is also in the starting XI against Spurs and he would be hoping to become an England regular under Tuchel after being a bit part player in the national team set-up. Gordon has been on excellent for this season and another good showing tonight will surely earmark him for a call up in Tuchel’s first squad as England boss. Players like Nick Pope and Lloyd Kelly would also be wanting to impress Tuchel with Pope hoping for a return to the national team and Kelly hoping for a maiden call-up.

Tottenham players that can be on Tuchel’s radar

While the Lilywhites don’t have as many English players on their books as the Magpies, they do have three players in their starting XI against Newcastle. Spurs have been going through an injury crisis off-late which has led to chances for fringe players. Summer signing Archie Gray, who impressed in the Championship last season, starts as a center back tonight and will be looking to put in a good showing in front of Tuchel. Forgotten Spurs man Djed Spence also starts tonight as left back, a position that has been somewhat of a problem area for the national team.

If Spence can put in a good showing and impress Tuchel, he could be in line for a maiden call-up sometime down the line. Striker Dominic Solanke, who recently returned to the national team under Lee Carsely, will be hoping to carry on his good form this season and impress the German in the stands. James Maddison, Spurs’ best player this season, can only find a place on the bench tonight but he will be wanting to impress Tuchel as well to establish himself as a key member of the National team.
