New Delhi: Liverpool’s latest Premier League clash against Manchester United will go ahead as scheduled, the club has confirmed. There were concerns over the game being postponed following heavy snowfall on Saturday night and Sunday morning, bringing fan safety concerns but those doubts have now been put behind following the safety meeting which took place at midday UK time.
The game, scheduled for 16:30 GMT/22:00 IST, will now kick-off as planned initially after the city’s safety authorities ruled it to be safe following two safety meetings held on Sunday morning and afternoon. Most parts of north-west England woke up to heavy snow on Sunday and the weather and travel conditions for the game had to be checked before the game was given a green light to go ahead as planned.

Both clubs confirmed in statements that the match will be played as scheduled. Liverpool’s statement read, “Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned” while Manchester United also confirmed that the game has “been deemed safe for fans to attend.” While the match will go ahead, the weather conditions in the country still remain adverse and an amber warning is in place for much of Northern England for snow and ice.
Airports in Liverpool and Manchester haven been temporarily closed on Sunday morning and rain showers are forecasted for the area in the afternoon. Thankfully for the clubs’ fans across the world, the game has been deemed to go ahead as postponing such a massive fixture would’ve been a huge bummer for the fans that had been anticipating the game all week while this would’ve been a financial loss for Liverpool as well.
Other games around the area have been postponed

While the ‘north-western derby’ will go ahead as scheduled, other games lower down the footballing pyramid in the country haven’t been given the same treatment. EFL League Two, the fourth tier of English football, has seen two of their games postponed due to the weather conditions. The games between League Two sides Chesterfield and Gillingham and Fleetwood Town and AFC Wimbledon have been called off following heavy snowfall last night.
This postponement isn’t just limited to men’s football, as Women’s FA Cup third-round fixture between Nottingham Forest and Burnley, which was scheduled to take place at Forest’s City Ground, has been called off as well. The weather conditions have affected other sports scheduled for the weekend as Horse racing at Plumpton in Sussex was called off due to waterlogging after the rains but the event scheduled for Chepstow is expected to go ahead.
After spending much of this Sunday waiting anxiously over the decision of the future of the Liverpool-Manchester United game, the game will go ahead as planned as confirmed by Liverpool. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
