ICC fines Pakistan, docks 5 WTC points for slow over rate against South Africa

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan players 25 per cent of their match fee and also docked five World Test Championship (WTC) points for a slow over-rate offence against South Africa in the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town.

Pakistan lost the two-Test series against South Africa after losing both matches with the second fixture ending in four days. Pakistan lost the match by 10 wickets and the series 2-0 as the Proteas entered the WTC final, booking a clash against Australia in the WTC final at Lord’s in June.

The ICC match referee Richie Richardson of the West Indies imposed the sanction on Pakistan after the team was ruled to be five overs short of the target after considering the time allowances.

Pakistani team penalised

As per the ICC code of conduct, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

The teams are penalised one WTC point for each over short. The ICC revealed that the Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the sanction, nullifying the need for a formal hearing.
