Sensex, Nifty open in the red on Jan 8; know the prominent gainers and laggards

As trading began on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, BSE Sensex and Nifty opened in the red. While at 9:15, Sensex 30 was at 78,149.72 points, declining 49.39 points (or 0.063%), Nifty 50 was at 23,704.50 points, down 3.40 points (or 0.014%).

Significantly, on January 7, both indices ended the day in the green. BSE Sensex 30 ended trading on Tuesday, January 8, 2025 at 78,199.11, notching up a gain of 234.12 points (or 0.30%). On the other hand, Nifty 50 ended trading at 23,707.90 points, gaining 91.85 points (or 0.39%).

There were 19 advances and 31 declines in Nifty. Among the top gainers in early trade were Dr Reddy’s, ONGC, RIL, Eicher Motors and Maruti. Among the prominent laggards were Trent, SHRIRAMFIN, Tech Mahindra, JSW Steel and Adani Ports.
