Jasprit Bumrah best-ever bowler across all 3 formats: Australian legend hails India pacer

New Delhi: Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has lavished praise on Jasprit Burmah, calling him the best-ever all-format bowler of all time after the Indian pacer’s stellar show in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Bumrah was on fire against Australia as he single-handedly carried India’s pace attack throughout the series.

The pacer shattered multiple records as he finished as the highest wicket-taker in the series with 32 wickets from five matches at an exceptional average of 13.06. Bumrah was deservingly awarded the Man of the Series for his bowling heroics, however, his efforts didn’t prove enough to help India get the better of the Aussies in the series.

Bumrah picked up three fifers in the series and shattered Bishan Singh Bedi’s record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a Test series in Australia. He also became the fastest Indian pacer to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev. While Kapil completed the feat in 50 Tests, Bumrah reached the milestone in only 44 Test matches.

Praising Bumrah for his heroics in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Clarke insisted the Indian pacer might be the best bowler of all time when it comes to all three formats of the game. Clarke mentioned the likes of Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath but acknowledged that they didn’t play T20Is which gives Burah an edge over them.

“The thing I’ve thought about Bumrah, after the series finished and I was sitting and thinking about his performances, I actually think he’s the best fast bowler ever across all three formats,” Clarke said on ESPN Ausralia’s Around The Wicket.

“I know a lot of great fast bowlers, Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath, didn’t get to play T20 cricket so I’m not talking about those guys, but in regards to anyone who has played all three formats, I think he might be the best ever. He’s actually that good in any conditions, that’s what makes him great; any conditions, any format, this guy’s a freak,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah closely missed out on Sydney Barnes’ all-time record

Bumrah closely missed out on breaking the record for most wickets by a touring pacer in a Test series in Australia held by former England pacer Sydney Barnes, who picked up 34 wickets in the 1911-12 series. Had Bumrah not injured his back on Day 2 of the final 5th Test in Sydney and bowled in the entire Test match, he could have easily gone past Barnes to shatter the record.

Bumrah suffered back spasms on Day 2 of the Sydney Test and had to leave the field after bowling just 10 overs in Australia’s first innings. He didn’t turn up to bowl during the hosts’ second innings as they comfortably chased down the target of 162 runs to register a six-wicket win and clinch the series 3-1. Bumrah’s back injury has let the Indian team management sweating over his participation in the Champions Trophy 2025 next month.

An Aussie legend has hailed Jasprit Bumrah as the best-ever bowler in across all three formats of the game after the Indian pacer’s heroics in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
