New Delhi: India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reached in the quarter-final of Malaysia Open 2025 after H.S Prannoy, Malvika Bansod and the women’s doubles pair of Treesha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand made their exit from the tournament. It is the first Super 1000 event of the new season of the BWF World Tour.
Satwik-Chirag defeated Malaysia’s Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong by 21-15, 21-15, in just 43 minutes at the Stadium Axiata Arena in the Malaysian capital on Thursday. The Commonwealth and Asian Games medal winners will face another Malaysian pair, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, in the quarterfinals on Friday.
H.S. Prannoy crashes out
China’s Shi Feng Li defeated H.S. Prannoy by 21-8, 15-21, 23-21 in the Round of 16 match that lasted more than an hour. The World No.26 delivered a fighting performance against seventh-seeded Shi Feng Li but he failed to win the match despite taking it to a tie-breaker as his campaign came to an end on Thursday.
He expressed his disappointment on X and wrote “Was almost there at the finish line tonight but was not meant to be today. Disappointed to lose out on an opportunity to go deeper in this tournament, but feels good to be back playing at this level again. Next up – Indian Open”.

Malvika Bansod’s campaign in the Malaysia Open came to an end after China’s third seed Han Yue defeated her by 21-18, 21-11. Malvika started the match well and took a 6-2 lead, but she failed to hold onto the momentum as her Chinese opponent made a comeback in the match and won it comfortably.
In women’s doubles, China’s Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian defeated India’s sixth-seeded pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand by 15-21, 21-18, 21-19 and exited from the event despite putting up a great fight.
