New Delhi: Real Madrid triumphed over Mallorca 3-0 in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal, led by Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo. Check out what happened in Jeddah on Friday.

Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo struck to help Madrid secure a dominating 3-0 win over Real Mallorca on Friday morning to set up a ‘Clasico’ Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona. Los Blancos now have the opportunity to avenge their significant Clasico loss to the Catalans in La Liga last October.

With the strong support from the crowd in Jeddah, Madrid opened the scoreline in the second half as Bellingham’s clinical strike sent them on their way to victory in Saudi Arabia. Madrid didn’t let the advantage slip from their hands, and Martin Valjent’s own goal in the dying moments secured the win, with Rodrygo’s close-range finish to seal the scoreline.

Real dominated the initial phase against last season’s Copa del Rey finalists, with Lucas Vazquez and Rodrygo Goes coming close to scoring in the first few minutes and Kylian Mbappe seeking a penalty after going down under pressure from Dani Rodriguez. Under Jagoba Arrasate’s guidance, Mallorca have effectively established themselves in defence and successfully managed to limit the Spanish and European champions’ attacking opportunities throughout the first half.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men even faced a setback early in the second half when Aurelien Tchouameni left the pitch following a head collision with Cyle Larin. The 24-year-old later confirmed that he didn’t sustain any injury. Breakthrough for Madrid came in the 63rd minute through Bellingham as he was in the right place at the right time to slot home the rebound past defenders on the goal-line, continuing individual form. So far, the England international has scored eight goals in his 10 matches across all competitions.

Although Vinicius and Mbappe had a less impressive performance than usual, their contributions to the goals showcased Madrid’s attacking strength. The match ended with tensions flaring between both sides as Mallorca defender Pablo Maffeo and Madrid’s Raul Asencio got engaged in a heated exchange.

What next?

Defending champions Real Madrid will again battle their archrivals, Barcelona, in the Super Spanish Cup finals, mirroring the 2024 matchup. Barcelona secured their spot in the finals as they defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in the other semifinal, with the final set for Monday morning.
