Premier League: Award winners for the month of December announced by the league

New Delhi: As the Premier League breaks for the weekend in favour of the FA, the league has revealed the winners of December’s awards, celebrating the standout performances across its marquee categories. These monthly accolades highlight the players, managers, and moments that captivated fans during the festive fixtures. The nominees were announced earlier in the month, and voting concluded earlier this week.

December brought familiar faces back to the spotlight as one winner claimed their award for the second time this season. From remarkable managerial feats to jaw-dropping goals, the month showcased the best the Premier League had to offer during a busy schedule. Newcastle’s dominance through the month of December is visible in the league’s awards with the club winning in two of the four categories.

Barclays Manager of the Month

The Premier League Manager of the Month for December is none other than Nottingham Forest’s Nuno Espírito Santo, who continues to cement his status as one of the league’s most tactical minds. Forest’s rise this season has been unparalleled and Santo deserves massive ups for the job he’s done with the Tricky Trees this campaign. He has established them in the top four and ended 2024 sitting second in the league table, capping off a brilliant month of December for the club. His side started the month on a losing note against Manchester City but turned it around.

They won all their subsequent matches in the month including big wins over Manchester United and Tottenham. Nuno faced stiff competition from Liverpool’s Arne Slot, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola but came out on top for the second time this season having won the award for the month of October as well. Slot’s Liverpool continued their strong campaign, while Iraola and Howe were also strong contenders after both Bournemouth and Newcastle achieved solid results in December but it’s Nottingham’s rise that helped Nuno win the award for the sixth time in his career.

EA Sports Player of the Month

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak has been named December’s Player of the Month after a scintillating run of form. The Swedish forward scored eight goals in December, with no other player scoring more goals that the Swede. He scored in six consecutive games in the month including a hattrick against Ipswich Town and vital goals in wins against Manchester United and Spurs. His clinical finishing and ability to create opportunities have been instrumental in Newcastle’s push for European qualification.

Isak edged out competition from Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White. Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson also made strong cases, but Isak’s consistency and match-winning contributions made him the standout player of the month. He had 10 goals and assists across the month and no player created more chances from open play than Isak’s 19 in the entire month, winning him the award.

Guinness Goal of the Month

Alexander Isak’s brilliant strike against Liverpool in the opening minute of their 3-3 earned him the Goal of the Month for December. Isak collected the ball just outside the penalty area, beat Virgil Van Dijk to create space before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box into the top right corner, leaving Alisson with no chance. The goal was a defining moment in the draw as it set Newcastle up with a strong start and was a testament to Isak’s technical brilliance. The fact that his strike beat out some other fabulous goals showcase the importance of his goal.

Other contenders included Tariq Lamptey’s stunning curler against Leicester and and a powerful half volley against Aston Villa, Amad Diallo’s dramatic winner against Manchester City, and Enes Ünal’s pinpoint free-kick against West Ham. Cole Palmer’s precise opener against Fulham and Matheus Cunha’s audacious Olympico against Manchester United were also in the running. However, Isak’s goal was a blend of skill, precision, and importance, making it a deserving winner.

Premier League Save of the Month

Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez was awarded with the Premier League Save of the Month award for his audacious save against Nottingham Forest during their clash in the middle of December. Martinez made an unbelievable reflex stop against Nicolas Dominguez’s header despite having an extremely short reaction time. The header had a lot of pace on it and was going down Martinez’s left side but the Argentine keeper struck his left hand out to stop the ball from going in and stopped it right at the goal line to ensure the score remained goalless at the time.

This was the first occasion on which the Aston Villa keeper has won the award since its introduction and he beat out some big saves to win it. David’s Raya’s stop to deny Mathais De Ligt and Matz Sels’s effort to push Bruno Fernandes’ free kick against the bar were also nominated for the award. Robert Sanchez’s reflex save to deny Christian Nørgaard’s volley was another strong contender and so was Stefan Ortega’s point blank stopping of Pau Torres’ header. Christian Walton’s effort to deny Cole Palmer in Ipswich Town’s first home win of the season rounded off the list.
