New Delhi: Ruturaj Gaikwad’s poor form for Maharashtra continued in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 on Saturday as he was once again dismissed cheaply in his side’s quarter-final clash against Punjab at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh cleaned up Gaikwad with a peach of a delivery to get Punjab off to a flyer in the quarter-final.

Arshdeep, who has been in exceptional form with the ball for Punjab, continued his brilliant run in the quarter-final against Maharashtra on Saturday. He produced a peach of a delivery to rattle Gaikwad’s stumps and send him packing cheaply on just 5 runs off 5 balls in the knockout clash. Arshdeep struck in the very first over of Maharashtra’s innings to get rid of Gaikwad.

The left-arm pacer troubled Gaikwad right from the onset and beat the right-hander a couple of times before cleaning him up with a brilliant outswinger. The ball was pitched on the good length area and swung sharply to rattle Gaikwad’s off-stump as his defence was left breached completely.

Arshdeep didn’t stop after dismissing Gaikwad cheaply as he went on to wreak more havoc on the Maharashtra batting line-up by removing no.3 Siddhesh Veer on a duck in his next over. The left-arm pacer has been in brilliant form for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year and is likely to get picked in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Arshdeep is currently the leading wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 with 19 wickets for Punjab in just 7 innings at an average of 18 and an economy of 5.53. The left-arm pacer has so far picked up two four-wicket hauls and a solitary fifer in the tournament.
