New Delhi: Former Assam cricketer Devajit Saikia took over as the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s new secretary, replacing Jay Shah, who left to become the chairman of the International Cricket Council.

Shah took on the ICC job on December 1, after which Saikia took over the responsibility on an interim basis.

The BCCI’s constitution stipulates that any vacant lying lying has to be filled up within 45 days by calling a special general meeting.

Hence an SGM was called on Sunday, the 43rd day after Shah’s departure and Saikia took over on a full-time basis.
