New Delhi: Former India cricketer Yograj Singh, who is also the father of all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has made a shocking statement by saying that he wanted to kill Kapil Dev after the Indian captain dropped him from the team.
Yograj made his international debut against Australia during an ODI match in Brisbane on December 21, 1980. He played one Test and six ODI matches for the team during his three-month international career. Yograj Singh said that when Kapil Dev became the captain of India, Haryana and North Zone, he dropped him from the team for no reason. He further added that Yuvraj’s mother wanted to ask him questions.
“I told her that I would teach this bloody man a lesson. I took my pistol out and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him, Because of you, I have lost a friend, and what you have done, you will pay for it” Yograj said on Unfiltered by Samdish.
Yograj also said that he told Kapil Dev that he wanted to put a bullet through his head but he didn’t do it because of his mother and that moment he decided to not play cricket. According to the 66-year-old, who has also acted in movies after retirement from cricket, he had never spoken to Kapil Dev in all these years.
“In 2011, when India won the World Cup, there was only one guy who was crying, and it was Kapil Dev. I did send him a paper cutting that my son did better than you in the World Cup” he added.
‘Bishan Singh Bedi didn’t wanted to pick me in the team’: Yograj Singh
Yograj also made allegations against former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi and said that he never forgave him as they plotted against him.
“When I was dropped, I spoke to Ravindra Chadha, one of the selectors. He told me that Bishan Singh Bedi (the chief selector) didn’t want to pick me because they thought I was Sunil Gavaskar’s man and because I was playing cricket in Mumbai. I was very close to Gavaskar” he added.
