New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is reportedly set to kick off on March 21 and the final of the tournament will be played on May 25. A decision on the start date of the new season of the IPL was taken in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Special General Meeting on Sunday, January 12.
As per a report in Sportstar, IPL 2025 will get underway on March 21 and the final will be played on May 25. The summit clash will be hosted by the Eden Gardens in Kolkata along with the second Qualifier while the Eliminator and the first Qualifier will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The final schedule of the tournament is still a work in progress and is likely to be announced in the coming days. While there is still a lot of time left for the tournament to get underway, some franchises have already begun their training camps with the Indian players taking part in it. All ten franchises rebuilt their squads in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year where a whopping Rs. 639.15 was spent on 182 players.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) let go of their former captain Shreyas Iyer, who led them to a memorable triumph in IPL 2024 while mentor Gautam Gambhir left the franchise to join the Indian team as their head coach. Punjab Kings spent Rs 26.75 crore to rope in Shreyas at the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the second-most expensive player in the tournament’s history.
Rishabh Pant emerged as the costliest buy at the IPL 2025 mega auction after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) broke the bank to sign the Indian wicket-keeper batter for a whopping Rs 27 crore. He became the most expensive player in IPL history and it remains to be seen if Pant will be leading LSG in IPL 2025 this year.
