New Delhi: Manchester City suffered a blow in the race for the top four with a shock 0-0 stalemate against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, May 10. Pep Guardiola’s men dominated possession but failed to break the deadlock as Southampton earned a point for their valiant performance. Brentford defeated Ipswich Town while Brighton managed to thrash Wolves 2-0.

Meanwhile, Everton managed to return to winning ways after beating Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage. It was yet another thrilling day of action in the Premier League, with the teams in action producing some enthralling moments. City’s draw against Southampton was arguably the biggest talking point as Guardiola’s men were expected to come away with an easy three points from the game.

Manchester City 0-0 Southampton

Southampton produced a valiant performance to hold Manchester City to a goalless draw at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday. Despite being boosted by the return of striker Erling Haaland, City struggled to get past Southampton’s gritty defence and couldn’t find the back of the net. Though Guradiola’s men dominated possession, they failed to convert any of the chances they created.

The goalless draw comes as a major blow to City in their pursuit of securing a spot in the top four this season to qualify for the Champions League. City had the chance to match Arsenal’s tally and go to the second spot on the points table with 67 points with a win against the Saints on Saturday. However, they remain in the third spot with 65 points after 36 matches.

Brentford 1-0 Ipswich Town

Brentford defeated the already-relegated Ipswich Town 1-0 to bag their fourth straight victory in the Premier League. Brentford headed into the game high on confidence, having beaten Manchester United 4-3 in a thriller. They continued their impressive run against Ipswich with a close win. Kevin Schade struck in the 18th minute for Brentford to be the difference between the two sides in the game.

Brighton 2-0 Wolves

Brighton also continued their impressive run in the Premier League with a convincing 2-0 victory over Wolves with the help of goals from Danny Welbeck and Brajan Gruda in either halves. Welbeck put Brighton ahead by converting a penalty in the 28th minute of the game before Gruda scored in the 85th minute to seal a 2-0 victory for his team.

 Southampton produced a valiant display to hold Manchester City to a goalless draw while Brentford defeated Ipswich Town 1-0.
