The much-awaited solo musical play My Name Is Jaan is coming to the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts on 18th January 2025, and the excitement is building. At the heart of this 90-minute masterpiece is the story of Gauhar Jaan, India’s first gramophone recording artist. Born in 1873, Gauhar defied societal norms and became a trailblazer in Indian classical music. Her historic 1902 gramophone recording cemented her place in history, earning her the title of the “Gramophone Girl of India”.
The play, directed by the visionary Abanti Chakraborty, takes audiences on a journey through Gauhar’s life, showcasing her triumphs, struggles, and indomitable spirit. With live performances of 11 iconic songs in multiple languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, and English, the production is a celebration of Gauhar’s musical genius and cultural legacy.
Arpita Chatterjee’s Stellar Performance
Starring the multitalented Arpita Chatterjee, the play has been lauded by critics and audiences alike.
