New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Tuesday was named as the ICC Player of the Month for the month of December 2024. The award was bestowed to the player for his exceptional bowling performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia.

Bumrah was nominated for the monthly award along with Australia Test captain Pat Cummins and South Africa fast bowler Dane Patterson. Bumrah finished the Australia Test series with a remarkable feat of 32 wickets at an astounding average of 13.06 powered by three five-wicket hauls.

Among those wickets, 22 wickets were taken in the month of December at an average of 14.22 to lead India’s bowling attack against the determined Australians. He mustered figures of 4 for 16 in the first innings of the pink-ball Test, though Australia took a lead of 157 runs.

He returned with sublime figures of 6 for 76 in the Brisbane Test as India bowled out Australia for 445. Three more scalps were added in the second innings to complete a haul of nine wickets. He claimed 4 for 99 and 5 for 57 in the Boxing-Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but India lost the match by 184 runs.

Bumrah also played a significant role for India with the bat in the third Test match. In the rain-curtailed match, India were staring at a potential follow-on after conceding 445 in the first innings. After defiant half-centuries from KL Rahul (77) and Ravindra Jadeja (84) helped India to put some runs, Bumrah build a crucial 47-run partnership with Akash Deep, though his contribution to it was just 10 runs.

He managed to wear out the Australian bowlers and hooked Pat Cummins for a six over fine leg to showcase his class with the willow and remained unbeaten on 10 after India were bowled out for 175.
